Roadmarque shortlisted for the 2010 Fleet News Awards

The Roadmarque team are pleased to announce that they have been shortlisted in the Safety category of the 2010 Fleet News Awards. Imagitech director, Mike Bews, commented:

“Roadmarque’s short-listing in the Safety category underlines our company’s commitment to improving fleet safety by providing a complete set of tools that facilitate the monitoring, testing and analysis of drivers – as well as providing both a structure and appropriate training materials for managing and acting on the results.

“Whilst it may not be possible to reduce the level of collisions in the average fleet to zero, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try – especially as the effort, when carefully controlled and coordinated using a system like Roadmarque, will normally be (at worst) cost neutral, and can usually generate a cost saving, overall.

“It’s a genuine win-win, where a small up-front investment in time and effort produces cost savings across the board in insurance, lost staff productivity, repairs, hire car costs etc. All of these can be reduced if the collision rate is reduced – and at the same time, by implementing the kinds of policies that Roadmarque helps to enforce, you virtually ring–fence the company from prosecution under duty of care legislation.”

This applies equally to road risk management, which is increasingly being viewed under a pan-European agenda. But, as with all fleet management policies and procedures, the issue of how to adopt a cross-border approach whilst dealing with local legislation remains problematic.

The research was conducted to determine the factors that influence the risk of an occupational driver being involved in a collision.

A total of 443 occupational drivers from four main groups - delivery drivers, HGV, occasional, and sales representatives - from a variety of organisations, took part in the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 drivers, transcribed and analysed. The resulting questionnaire was tested with 426 drivers, with the aim of identifying factors that predict accidents and cumulative risk - accidents, points on licence, speeding tickets and other recorded offences.
